A beta version of the module exists it Git. The plugin can be installed by cloning the Git workspace and importing the project into the instance of Eclipse where you would like to install it. The plugin support module, which is a Magnolia module, is available through the Forge as well. 


The plugin has been tested with Oxygen 3 and Photon but it's quite possible it will work with earlier versions as well. At the moment the plugin is not available through the Eclipse marketplace. The support module is available through the Magnolia nexus. 


To install the plugin follow these steps:

  1. Clone the repository.

    clone ssh://
  2. Import the project into Eclipse.
  3. Right click on the project and select Export.
  4. Choose "Deployable plug-ins and fragments". Click Next.
  5. Select "Install into host. Repository"
  6. Click Finish.
  7. Restart Eclipse when prompted.


Under the preferences menu you can find the Magnolia preferences settings.

The url of the webapp that the plugin should use to call the rest endpoints.

The user id that should be used to login.

Setup for Light Development

This setup will cover the basic front-end light developer approach.

Create a workspace

Create a parent folder for the entire project.


Setup Magnolia CMS

To use the plugin and the plugin support module it is not required that you know Maven or how to create a Magnolia webapp from the archetype.

Instead download the version of Magnolia that you would like to use as a complete war file:

Place the war file into the light-dev-workspace and rename it to: magnoliaAuthor.war

Import the war file into Eclipse:

  1. Right click in the project explorer and select Import > Import...
  2. Select WAR file. Click Next.
  3. Select the magnoliaAuthor.war file.
  4. Click Finish.
  5. Confirm: Java EE Perspective.

Setup Tomcat

Download and setup tomcat server.
