By default, Datadog metrics collect data only from the Live environment. An extension of the service to the other environments is possible but incurs an additional monthly cost.

Datadog logs are collected from all environments.

Access to Datadog is limited only to people with access to the Cockpit. Use the same LDAP login credentials for the Cockpit to log in to Datadog.

For subscription packages created since the beginning of February 2021, all Cockpit users are automatically added to the Datadog organization. Therefore, they can access the Datadog just by clicking the link in the Cockpit -> Package overview -> Additional information -> Logs view URL. Email invitations won't be sent to these users any longer.

Step-by-step guide

  1. After logging in, you see the All Dashboards page and the environment dashboards.
(Note: You can star-mark your dashboards, after which they are displayed in the gray area on the left if you hover over "Dashboards")
  2. Accessing the metrics.
Click a specific dashboard under the "Dashboards" tab in the gray area on the left.
The time frames narrowing the data set can be changed in the top right corner.
  3. Accessing the logs.
Click the "Search" sub-tab of the "Logs" tab in the gray area on the left.
The time frames narrowing the log set can be changed in the top right corner.
Everything you will see and eventually will be able to filter depends on the time frame and also on what has actually been collected during that time frame. For example, if you choose a time frame during which nothing has been collected from the Public2 instance in the Live environment, you will not see the Public2 option in the filter menu.
You can use the "Host" and "Status" options to filter the instance logs and errors displayed.

Note: Information about predefined triggers is mentioned in the docu page mentioned at the beginning of the article.
